I am SO excited for this!

I was privileged enough to work behind the counter at Pete Real‘s legendary Deal Real Records at it’s original Soho location on Noel Street in London, where I got to know many wonderful Hip Hop heads and legends alike whilst teaching myself to DJ.

Deal Real was more than just a record shop: ALL the major figures in the scene hung out & politicked there and we had many good times throwing unofficial parties in-store.

In my opinion, it’s a seminal place in the UK’s history and basically there’s just WAY too many classic stories and influential personalities for me to mention here! So really, this is a get-together not to be missed.

Sadly, the store closed in 2000 depriving the UK of one of its key Hip Hop meeting points. Last year I started harassing Pete to get a reunion party together — and now its happening!

Released on the anniversary of Malcolm X‘s assassination (Feb. 21st) & part of an upcoming project; ‘Top 40 Underdog‘, Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def, brings us the video for ‘N****s In Poorest‘ a flip on Jay Z & Kanye’s ‘N****s In Paris’ 2011 track.

Whilst many were going “cray”, personally I didn’t find Ye & Jiggas original particularly profound or interesting — musically or otherwise — so I for one am happy to hear a voice of authority, like Yasiin, at the least revert our focus to some real life issues here.
